A memorial service was held Wednesday for Officer Artie Lopez, who was shot to death while attempting to make an arrest 12 years ago.

Lopez arrived at the scene of a crash on Oct. 23, 2012 and proceeded to give chase. The driver on the run shot Lopez and a bystander.

Lopez served with the Nassau County Police Department for eight years.

The department holds a service every year in his honor.
