Memorial Day observances took place around the nation Monday, including in Massapequa.
Many came out to honor the fallen at a motorcade, which took place this year instead of a marching parade.
Veteran Terence Kreider says he is proud to stand alongside his fellow veterans in Massapequa, all 97, 98 and 103 years old.
Outside the Smithtown Town Hall, people read poems to remember our fallen heroes. Vietnam veteran Thomas Mooney says he will forever remember his partner, 22-year-old Richard Hurley.
He says it's still overwhelming but knows he's not the only one who lost someone on the front lines.
The motorcade's last stop was at the American Legion 1066.
