Melville man charged after allegedly running over girlfriend
A Melville man is facing felony charges after a dispute with his live-in girlfriend ended with him allegedly running her over.
Nassau police say Robert Savinetti, 57, and his girlfriend, Lisa Micelli, got into an argument while at the Cardoon Restaurant in Seaford Tuesday night. She worked there as a bartender a few days a week.
Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick says the dispute continued into the parking lot, where he tried to leave her behind. Witnesses say she tried to get into the car as he was driving away.
"She was on the right side of the vehicle, pounding on the glass. He continued on and she got caught up in the rear wheel," says Fitzpatrick.
According to court documents, Savinetti came back to the scene after getting a call from the owner of the restaurant, who said his girlfriend was lying on the ground. Police noted Savinetti had red, glassy and bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.
Court papers show Savinetti told police he'd had "four glasses of wine" and that he "left her there to teach her a lesson about her smoking."
Savinetti is better known as Bobby Calypso, the lead singer and guitarist for the band "Copy Cat." According to her Facebook profile, his girlfriend handled bookings for the band.
Savinetti was charged with vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality and DWI. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded without bail.
