Dozens rallied in Elwood to protest the construction of what some residents are calling a "mega mall."
Great Neck-based developer Villadom wants to build a nearly 500,000-square-foot mall on Jericho Turnpike near the Elwood-Dix Hills border.
Elwood resident Andrew Kaplan says the land is not zoned for this kind of project.
"If there's any change in that contract, it has to be mutually beneficial, and clearly this is one-sided," he says.
Some of the residents are concerned that the mall would create more traffic on Jericho Turnpike and pollute the groundwater.
Residents say there are plenty of places in the area where businesses can set up shop instead.
News 12 reached out to Villadom for comment, but they have not responded.
Protestors say they plan to attend the Town Board hearing on May 17 to speak out against the proposed mall.
