Some members of the medical staff at Maher Hospital in Port Jefferson donated $50,000 for the construction of a new emergency department.
The new $52 million Frey Family Emergency Department will double the size of the current emergency department. It will also feature private rooms, isolation rooms for infectious disease control and a treatment area for those experiencing a mental health crisis.
It is expected to open next year.
