Mayor Eric Adams vetoed the New York City Council's decision to block Bally's proposal to build a casino in The Bronx.
Mayor Adams says denying Bally's the opportunity for one of the coveted licenses would take away the borough's chance to compete for a $4 billion private investment that could bring thousands of jobs.
"The City Council's decision to treat The Bronx differently than other boroughs goes against the publicly stated, in-favor positions of the Bronx borough president and other councilmembers representing working-class neighborhoods across The Bronx," he stated.
The City Council is criticizing the veto, particularly using his lone land use veto in office for a casino proposal and not housing, stating in part:
"This administration's hypocrisy and unethical conduct is well documented and has been witnessed by all New Yorkers, so the mayor's words have no credibility. The Council will consider its next steps on this land use application."
