A Mastic man is proud to call himself a triple crown in the long distance hiking community after he completed a hike that spanned more than 3,000 miles.
Ted Warren, also known as "Scarecrow," returned home Friday from hiking the Great Continental Divide. Warren began April 15 and hiked 3,100 miles.
Warren completed the first part of his triple crown in 2001 when he hiked the Appalachian Trail. The hike was 2,175 miles long and took Warren more than four months. Ten years later, Warren hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, which spans 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada.
Carole, Warren's wife, has blogged about her husband's experiences from home. Their children, 16-year-old Dakota and 12-year-old Jagger, say they are really proud of him.
Warren plans to do the trail again, on a bicycle, in 2016.
