Authorities say a resident of a group home is dead tonight after a violent struggle with police.

Police were called to Maryhaven Center of Hope on Wednesday night after Dainell Simmons, 29, had a violent outburst that lasted for 45 minutes. Staff members say Simmons banged into walls and hit staff members.

Officers were able to calm Simmons down for a minute, but upon hearing he was headed to the hospital for an evaluation, police say he became violent again.

Investigators say Simmons died after being Tasered and pepper-sprayed by officers. Detectives say the Tasers are being analyzed to confirm the number of times they were used in the confrontation.
