It is move-in week for students at the newly renamed Manhattan University.

“Welcome our first class, Class of 2028 to Manhattan University,” said Manhattan University President Dr. Milo Riverso.

This new name recognizes the university’s more than 100 majors. First-year students that moved in on Thursday told News 12 that beginning this new chapter in life comes with many emotions.

“I’m so nervous right now but I’m really, really excited to go on a new academic career,” said Angelina Gencarelli.

Gencarelli is the first person in her family to go away for college. Her mother says she is hesitant to send her first born away but wants her to have new experiences.

“It’s emotional but I hear the little birds chirping and the energy feels right, the sun is shining so I’m excited,” said Melissa Gencarelli.

Brianna Estevez, a first-year student, told News 12 that she will miss home.

“I’m definitely going to miss those home cooked meals. My mom is like the best chef I could have,” said Brianna Estevez.

Orientation will happen over the next few days and the first day of classes for students will be Monday.
