Nassau police are looking for a male suspect who stole a vehicle from a
woman while she was pumping gas at a BP station in Mineola on Monday afternoon.
According to detectives, the 60-year-old
female victim was standing outside her vehicle on the passenger side at the station located on West Jericho Turnpike
fueling up her 2020 white Range Rover.
That is when police say an unknown male
subject described as being of thin build, wearing gray sweatpants, a black
hooded sweatshirt, white/black/gray sneakers, black gloves, and had on a black
ski mask entered the driver’s side door of the vehicle and fled westbound onto
Jericho Turnpike.
Police say inside the vehicle was a
handbag that contained assorted credit cards and the victim’s 1-year-old small
white Cavachon Bichon dog.
A short time later, in the vicinity of
Jericho Turnpike and Mineola Boulevard, the subject attempted to throw the dog
out of the vehicle, but the collar got caught and the dog was dragged along the
roadway. The dog was eventually able to free itself as the vehicle continued
westbound on Jericho Turnpike.
A passerby was able to render aid to the
dog and called 911.
The dog was transported with police to a
nearby veterinary hospital and was treated for serious injuries. The female
victim did not suffer any injuries.
The white Range Rover was later located
parked in front of 500 North Walnut Street in East Orange, New Jersey.
