Nassau police are searching for man they say stole a donation box from St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church in Franklin Square on Sept. 17.
A man was caught on camera taking the entire donation box into another room.
Police say he forced his way into the building through a locked basement door, and stole an unknown amount of money.
Parishioners tell News 12 they are stunned to hear about the theft, and that the church is always working to help those in need.
The church and Diocese of Rockville Centre both declined to comment on the robbery.
