A man?s decision to visit his ex-girlfriend?s home in Huntington Station Saturday turned out to be a deadly choice.
According to police, Carol Lama awoke to hear an intruder in her house around 1:20 a.m., fired a shotgun she kept by the bed for protection and hit 50-year-old Robert Travers in the chest, killing him. Police say Travers was the reason Lama got the shotgun. Lama told investigators she had problems with her ex-boyfriend in the past, but there was no restraining order.
Police are investigating whether the two had any type of conversation right before the shooting. They also want to know if Travers broke into the home or got in through an open window or with a key. Lama has not been charged in connection with the shooting.
