A man was seriously injured in an accident involving a wood chipper Sunday in West Babylon, police say.
It happened in front of a home located at 564 15th St. in West Babylon shortly before 12 p.m. The man has been identified as Robert Fischer, 72, of West Babylon.
Police say Fischer's leg became caught in the wood chipper and was partially amputated.
His son, Richard, was able to free him and he was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.
Police say the wood chipping equipment was impounded for a safety check and OSHA was notified of the incident.
