Police say that a man was robbed and slashed inside an N train in Gravesend.
They say it happened on Feb. 7 as the train approached the 86th Street subway station.
Police say the suspect approached a 25-year-old man and demanded his wallet and money.
When the victim refused, police say the suspect slashed the victim on the head, face, back and knee with a knife.
Police say he took the victim’s wallet and ran away from the station.
The victim was taken by EMS to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn and is expected to recover.
Commuters like Masil Nadwuem says he goes there everyday.
“That’s a little too close to home and that’s where I expect to feel safe and I shouldn’t have to fear for my life on the subway," said Nadwuem.
According to NYPD transit statistics, so far this year there have been 60 robbery complaints on transit systems across the city. That's compared to last time at this year when there was 38. Riders like Sam Chen says he's always alert.
“I always keep a lookout, especially for myself and others. Like there's never not like a danger whenever you're going outside, especially nowadays," said Chen.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to call them.
