A man was killed last night when his car smashed through a guardrail on an overpass, then plunged about 20 feet onto the Bruckner Expressway.
It happened just before 11 p.m. Police say the man's 2012 Chevy Cruz went through an intersection on East Tremont Avenue, then struck the guardrail. Witnesses say the car then plunged onto the highway below.
EMTs who responded to the scene found an unresponsive 26-year-old man inside the car. He was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.
Witnesses say traffic was backed up for miles as police investigated. There is a large, taped-off gap in the guardrail on East Tremont Avenue where the car crashed into it.
There is no word on what caused the car to lose control.
