A man was found dead in an Amityville boathouse from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning, and his 92-year-old mother is in critical condition. Police say a tenant of the South Ketcham Avenue boathouse found the body of 64-year-old Dwight Rovery about 6:40 p.m. Friday. The tenant discovered Rovery near the engine of his boat, which was running, in the boathouse. Police say when Amityville police and firefighters got to the scene, they found high levels of carbon monoxide inside the boathouse.
Rovery?s elderly mother was found unconscious in an upstairs apartment. Fire officials say the level of carbon monoxide in the apartment was several times the amount that would set off a carbon monoxide detector, if there was one present.
Dwight Rovery did not live at the boathouse, but was the owner of Rovery Marine, which was on the property. A medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
