A Selden man was arrested for allegedly snapping lewd pictures of an underage girl at the Target at Independence Plaza in Selden, Suffolk County police said.
Investigators accuse Aqeel Ahmad, 53, of bending down and using his cell phone to take pictures up a 13-year-old girl's dress while she was browsing greeting cards on Sunday, Oct. 19, around 2 p.m.
Police said the girl's father saw the incident and approached Ahmad, who ran from the store. The father immediately called the police, according to officials.
Yesterday, around 6:40 p.m., Suffolk County police arrested Ahmad in his car near the intersection of College Road and Galaxie Lane in Selden, down the block from the apartment complex where he lives and less than a mile from the store where the alleged crime happened.
Ahmad is charged with one count of second degree unlawful surveillance and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip later this morning.
Suffolk County police are searching for additional victims and are asking anyone who thinks they may have been victimized to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
