This morning, our mainstream Long Island series continues. We're taking the time every week to head out to our communities and show off our local businesses. And this morning we are in Lynbrook News Fell's Jen Selig is at the sweet piece. Getting a sweet treat. Nice way to start the day, Jen. It certainly is rich. Never too early for some chocolate. But hey, if you guys need any kind of specialty cake, the sweet piece is the place to be with me. I have chef Allison. You've been the owner here for 16 years and customizing cakes is your specialty. That is correct. It is an edible art studio. We have a small bakery counter, but we are a custom cake shop and we service all on Long Island in the tri state area. You pay us, we deliver wherever you want us. You grew up in people that know you, they know your kids. Your kids are always here full time mom, full time baker. What's the best part about the business here on Atlantic Avenue? Uh It has a real hometown feel. I basically come home every day and that's something that can't be fulfilled. Just through work. It's an emotional tie to the area. It's a wonderful business to run. And I love that. I get to see familiar faces and I see generations of familiar faces which is more important than just a one time customer. I'm servicing families for generations. And it's awesome. And you've really seen the town grow and build. I mean, like from empty storefronts, this place is packed. Yeah. Um, I had my first cup of coffee probably 25 years ago across the street at a bakery. Um I grew up here, my mom was a teacher for 39 years in this district. So I've watched it grow from not just a business standpoint the last 16 years, but really as a child, I've seen the turnover and it's made me want to be part of the community, which is a really big deal that I opened my business here as many years as I did. I wanted to continue. Um what was given to me as a child? I wanted to be part of everyone else's backgrounds of their life and it's awesome and super sweet. So let's take a bite of one of these. They truffles. So these are our famous cake truffles. Um It's basically to describe it, a cake popsicle without a stick. So it tastes like cookie dough, but they're fully baked. And our signature flavors are Lemon Smores birthday cake and cookies and cream and they're pretty addicting. They really are good. So we're gonna munch on these and, uh, check out some other businesses, send them back to you in the studio. Rich. All right. Looks good. Sure. It tastes good as well. Jen. This morning, our main street Long Island series continues. We're taking the time every week to head out to our communities and show off our local businesses. And this morning we are in Lynbrook news tubs. Jen Silly is at Merle's men's and boys shop, Jen Rich from the dress pants to the suits. Look at all this to the dress. Use this store. Me has it all. And the two gentlemen that started this business pictured right here. That's Murray and that le and they opened up this business after serving in World War Two. And now Murray's son, Bruce has big shoes to fill you own this business. And this is a staple here right in Lim Brook. Yes. We've been around since 1946. My father and uncle Lee Murray and Lee started the business. Murley. Uh, they came upon limb. They were looking to open up a business after the war and they drove around Long Island and they came upon this little town limb and they decided this is where they wanted to make their home. And it's been that way ever since you have returning customers, you have first timers coming in. I mean, the store is massive too. I wish we can show everything. Well, you know what? It's funny you said that and you brought that up because I had a customer in the store the other day and they were talking about how many generations of family they have shopping at Merle's and we figured out it's four generations of people shopping here. So that's how steeped in history and community that we are here at Merle's. So it's really, it's really uh uh fulfilling that I'm now in charge of this institution on Long Island and uh it's been very, very good to me and my family. So I can't complain. What's your favorite part about having the business on Atlantic Avenue? Uh My favorite part is again the community and the people and every people just stop in just to say hello, how are you or how's your dad? How's your brother? And um that, that makes me feel like it's a warm, cozy, comfortable place for people just to stop in. It's not only just about the shopping experience which we excel at and that's why we're doing so well, but it's that, that comfort of just being able to walk in and feel like home. Like cheers. We call ourselves the cheers of the clothing stores. I love to hear it, Bruce. Thank you so much. We still have so many more businesses to check out here in Lynbrook. So stick with us. It is Monday, meaning we're focused on Long Island's many great main streets and news of the JC like is in Lynbrook this afternoon showing us another one. So much talent inside of this dance studio. And we were at stars, speaking with the director Britney. Here you have been with the business for how long I've been with Stars on Broadway for 21 years. They've been in business actually, 22 years. They've been in business for 23 years. Um We came to Lynbrook 15 years ago and it's been such a blessing ever since. What's the best part about Lynn? Oh my gosh, my customers, my students, the community, I feel like they're such a family. They treat you like family. And I always say we're not just a dance studio. We're a family like from your neighbors to the kids that come out of school and when they have break, they go get pizza at Vincent's down the block or they're at the bagel store. You know, it's just I blessed to be here in this community. Now. We're with Polly with the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce. And boy, this is just one of the amazing businesses here in town. We do have some wonderful businesses and Lynbrook really does mean business. We've got this, this business right here. Stars just won our window makeover contest and we have car shows all summer long. Every Thursday night, we have a beautiful, it's called Cruise nights and it's beautiful. And we also have a uh festival coming, a spring fest or a summer festival coming on July 14th. So, and there's tons more. If you visit our website, you see it all, but we have a lot of stuff going on and Lynbrook really does mean business. Where are we, girls, Jen Selig, New Stra Long Island.
