From a new small business to some others. It's Monday, which means we're headed to another great community on Long Island, checking out everything it has to offer. It's on our main street Long Island series and it continues this morning in Hampstead News 12. Gen Selig is at Caribbean restaurant and family business. Tropical jerk. Hey, hey, Jen. Hey, good morning guys. They were skipping breakfast. We're going right to lunch. Look at all the delicious food. If you guys can smell it, you would agree with me. It smells so good in here with me. I have so she's right now on the grill, making some chicken this morning and so that you guys have a bunch of locations. This is their newest one. You've been here for about a year and a half. How has the community been to you? Oh, they've been very good. Um We've gotten a lot of support from um the community, the town of Hempstead Hempstead Commerce. Um Everybody's been very good to us since we've been over here. I love that. So, what do we have going on this morning? Obviously, this is chicken. Yes. So we have jerk chicken on the grill. Um Usually uh we have curry chicken, curry goat, oxtail, uh rice and peas stew, chicken, steamed cabbage, um rasta, pasta. It's a variety of everything. Fried chicken, um cocktail patties, patties. Um So we have a variety of food that we um serve your family owned business and you're bringing your culture and heritage right here to Hampstead. Yes. Yes. So we are a family owned business. We've been in business for about 22 years. Um We have eight locations. Well, it's going to be eight location in another month. Um It is run by um me and uh Norman Freder, which is my kids and father. Uh and all the Children play a part in the business. Um My daughter does the payroll. Uh One of my sons cook, another one manages the restaurant and um the two youngest, they're um in school still. So eventually we hope that they'll come into the business also. Well, we wish you much success. She comes from Jamaica. You bring all of your culture and heritage here and everything smells so good. We're going to have to try a bite, but that's all the time we have this morning, but we're going to send it back to you guys in the studio and check out the rest of what Hempstead has to offer for us this morning. All right. Love to hear that, Jen, a family owned business expanding and doing so well. We'll check back in, in a little bit.

All right, it's Monday, which means we're highlighting another local neighborhood this morning. Our main street Long Island series continues in Hampstead and our Selig is at 270 deli right now. Grabbing some breakfast. Hey, Jen. Hey, Rich. Everything looks so good here. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and you can see it's all filled and we have people coming in throughout the morning, check it out with me. I have LaShawn Lukes. You are the chamber president and you come here all the time and order food. Yes, this is one of my favorite restaurants and I, I call it a restaurant deli because you can get everything here from smoothies to chicken, to your pork, to vegetables, seafood. It's a one stop shop in American and Latin cuisine and this is a staple here in the community. Yes. Um They've been in business for over a decade. Um Long family legacy. I actually know the owners are Senel Espino, the Espino family. They're phenomenal, great hospitality. As you see, the food is ready early. So it's very exciting to come in here. Why is it important to have these local mom and pop places right here? In the town, I believe in preserving culture. That's one of the different things. Um, one of the great parts of being in Hempstead is that we have such a strong diversity as far as the community. Um, the backgrounds, ethnicities, you can taste it. So that's another part of it that I love the food. And they open at five o'clock. You already got your coffee here this morning. Is it good? Yeah. Listen, I love it. I love it. Love it. So we have to eat some good food here. I kinda wanna try an empanada. I don't know what you're in the mood for, but we're gonna grab a bite and send it back to you guys in the studio. Ok. Right. It's Monday, which means we're headed to another great community on Long Island, checking out everything it has to offer. Our main street Long Island series continues in Hampstead this morning. And our Jen Selig is at a woman owned tire shop called Quick Quick Use Tires morning, Jen. Hey, good morning. I love everything about this place with me. I have the owner Daisy. You started this business 19 years ago. You always had a love for cars. Yes. Thank you. And, and you said you studied cars. Yes, I went to school for a mechanic. Yeah. And 19 years ago you opened up this shop. What is so cool about having your own business? Well, it's, it's very cool document. I give it the power to my daughter. So make it show how a woman and started from the scratch doing a business on. And they, they saw me and they say, oh wow, mom, you're doing good. I love it. Hey, all power to you. That's what I love here is girl power being a woman boss. And you said you have five employees. So you guys, you guys are here all the time. All the time. What is the best part about having this business in Hempstead? Well, I've grown on a Hempstead. I love Hempstead. The community is very nice. Yes, it's very nice. And I thank you very much to the chamber, uh, commercial because they support business on. And I love my team, my team, they support a lot of my kids. Thank you to my kids are awesome. Yeah, that is so cool. And I love that you are in this industry. I actually learned my dad taught me how to do an oil change yesterday. So it's so cool to be here, Daisy. Thank you so much. It is Monday. So we are focusing on one Long Island's many great main streets news. 12 Jane Jenee like is in Hempstead for us this afternoon. Cultivating Lives. It's a nonprofit that is run by this beautiful couple here, LaShawn and Jamie. You guys do amazing work and you're helping communities across Long Island. Yes. Cultivating Lives nonprofit. We provide financial literacy and economic services to individuals in underserved and compromised communities. And we talk a little bit off camera. You guys have been doing work for a few years now and you've seen the progress and change has been made to individuals and families. Yes. Yes. And we love to see it when the people love what we do. And I guess it's, it shows them that we are offering greatness to them and it helps them to understand the things that they miss out on or what they didn't get. And you know, and it's great that LaShawn is such a wonderful teacher and the way they learn from her, it makes, makes it so much easier for them. You know, you, you teach finances too. You were saying yes. So we talk about credit building. I call it financial prosperity because we touch just not on credit, understanding your credit report, budgeting, making healthy financial decisions. That's sometimes what holds us down, making those bad decisions, teaching them how to use these skills every day and to get a message back from someone that you were helping saying I got my first credit card. I mean, that probably means everything to you guys. Oh, it's so fulfilling. It's so fulfilling. Especially sometimes when we have people who believe that, you know what? I can never do this, I can never achieve. And when they do it lets us know in our heart that we're doing the right thing. I love that you guys do amazing work and thank you for what you do and thanks for being with us here today. Thank you gonna send it back to you guys in the studio.
