It's Monday, which means we are back in one of your neighborhoods showing off some of the small businesses that make Long Island so great. And this morning we're in Floral Park. News told Jen Selig is live right now at Tulip cigars. Good morning, Jen. Hey, good morning Rich. Yeah, we are in one of the newer businesses on the block here on Tulip Avenue. And you guys opened your doors a month ago and then literally opening a few minutes ago to start your day from six to midnight. You're here. This is Monty, he's the manager of the store and you guys sell a little bit of everything here. Everything here with a beer with, with, with, with ac with a rout with a van, with a tobacco, all the things here, a little bit of everything and that room is so cool. Obviously, you guys are going to be known for your cigars. So why should people come here and buy them first? The people come here first through our cr collection and through our prices, it's very cheap. All the streets and all the brands you have, get it here. And what's your love for this community. I know you guys are new here but you have seen a lot of support already. Neighborhood is very good. Every customer is very humble and good customer. So you've seen a lot of support. I know you guys had a ribbon cutting not too long ago as well. The mayor is coming is cutting the ribbon cutting. It's very important. So what are you hopeful for to have the business right here on Tulip Avenue? Because Tulip Avenue is historic here. I mean all the local mom and pop shops are here. I hope so. The story is working good. The people is also good. Our prices is also good, main things. Our price is also our story is neat and clean every time I am very hygienic. Our story is very hygienic. You saw the story. Yes, it's very clean in here, man. Thank you so much. Good luck to you and to everybody that works here. This morning, our main street Long Island series continues in Floral Park and news to Jen Selig is live right now with the Hands Family Foundation, which works to empower girls and women in honor of three girls killed in a tragic accident in 2009, Jen. And that's when the foundation started. These were the three beautiful girls here and Allison and Katie. And since the tragic passing, this community has been so supportive with the family and the family started their own foundation. This is Shanty. You are the program director here and you guys do everything to help girls and all different communities even upstate all around. Yes. Yes. We, you know, we started out after this very tragic event back in 2009 and Jackie and Warren knew immediately that they wanted to create this legacy to honor their daughters, Emma Allison and Katie. And since then, we have grown from the community of Floral Park started right here. We wouldn't be anything without the love and support from Floral Park and have created a, a amazing organization. How has the impact been in the support that you guys have received since you acquired this space two years ago, you said so since we moved here two years ago, this makes complete sense to me to be on Tulip Avenue at the heart of the Floor Park Village because Floor Park is the heart of the foundation. And just thinking about all the growth that we've had in the past 15 years, again, all of this would not have happened without the community. The community really surrounded Jackie and Warren after the accident and helped them create a program really honoring the memories of Emma Allison and Katie in a program called Beautiful Me, that's offered to females actually of all ages. So, um not necessarily young girls, but we've had participants in the past that have ranged from 5 to 100 and five. And we're really helping to empower them in their self esteem and confidence for viewers that wanna help out, wanna learn more about the organization, the foundation, where can they find you? If you wanna check it out and learn more about all the wonderful things we do, we're hosting an event soon with the local school Children here in Flora Park called Grow With Me. Well, it's a Monday and this morning we're once again checking out some of Long Island's great small businesses. Our main street, Long Island series continues this morning. We are in Floral Park and that's where we find our Jen Selig at Floral Park chemist. It's a mom and pop pharmacy rooted in nature. Jen. It. Absolutely right. Rich. She is a chemist. She's a pharmacist and she is a business owner. This is Margarita. You opened up your own business earlier this year back in July. But you've been a pharmacist for 10 years. Yes, that's right. Uh Thank you for having me. Um I have been a pharmacist for 10 years. Uh We're a pharmacy that's open in Floral Park, but we're open to all of Long Island. Uh We offer a blend of complementary as well as alter, alternative medi uh conventional, as well as alternative medicine. Um As you guys can see here, we have our uh herbal wall. Uh We also have uh organic vitamins, pure encapsulation that's very clean, very organic. Um And of course, as well as prescription medication. Um soon we're gonna be doing flu shots as well. Um We make prescription uh prescription transfers so easy. Um You know, you just give us a call, we'll handle the rest. I know a lot of people are stuck in their routine, but we really make it so easy and so seamless. Um I love that wall behind you. Like give me an example, like what is activated charcoal do? So activated charcoal helps with indigestion. Um It's also used like God forbid food poisoning or anything like that. It helps kind of bring everything um in the stomach back to normal. Really? And you're a one woman band. I mean, you're the pharmacist, you're behind the counter, you do everything and how has the community been supporting you? Oh, they've been great. Um They really love that we're here. They are so excited to continue using us as their new pharmacy. Um They're loving the alternative medicine as well. It's really just we, we, our main focus is really to just um give everybody the personal service that they need. I love that and talk about mom and pop shop. Your dad also has uh he makes his own honey raw honey here. So you could get a little bit of everything here at this pharmacy ridge. Pretty cool. It is Monday, which means we're back in one of your neighborhoods showing off some of the small businesses that make Long Island so great. And this morning we're in Floral Park. News tells Jen Selig is at here and now yoga which just had their grand opening a couple of weeks ago. Right. Jen. Yeah. Rich. Another new business to tell you about. This is Michelle. She is a co owner with Dina who is currently instructing a yoga yoga class and you guys do more than just yoga here. Yes, we have a whole wide diverse range of classes from yoga, meditation chair, yoga for those who have limited mobility. Uh We have kids. We've got uh Tai Chi, we've got self defense. We've got um a whole wide range. It's like even even um we have sound baths and, and a bunch of healing. It's all about healing and arts collective because not just yoga and wellness but also um pulling in from dance world and moving and movement. We have a, an improv class coming up. We have ballet classes every week. Um It's, you have returning customers. We do, we do have returning customers. Yes, I've been teaching for about 15 years. Dena has also been teaching for a very long time as a dancer educator and uh and a yoga instructor. So we both come from um from arts, from, from acting, from movement and then yoga and we're both moms as well. So, of course, we're multitasking all day long, opening a new business, opening a new business in the heart of Floral Park. What's the best part about being part of this community? We've been so welcomed from, from being in the village. There's, there's a definite vibe of uh wanting us here, uh definite energy and every time people walk by the window they pop their heads in. They're like, I'm so glad you're here. I have been waiting for a yoga studio and here you are. And so it's really, really wonderful to feel that welcome energy for sure. And you don't have to know anything about yoga and still feel welcome here. It's a, it's all levels. If you've never stepped on a yoga mat, welcome. If you can do handstands on one arm, you're welcome. We have a class for you for that too. In case you're interested. That's so cool. Well, I'm gonna try it out because there's an open malooly right here and uh we'll give it a shot. I've done yoga once in my life. So this will be the second time back to you. It's a Monday and that means that we are focused on one of Long Island's many great main streets. News Twelve's gens like is over in Floral Park for us. This afternoon, we are inside the dance studio where this place is usually bumping and jumping. And with me, I have Jackie and Christina Jackie. You're the owner of the studio and you guys have been here in Floral Park for a few years now. Yes, we um opened in 2002 in Bell Rose, but we moved here in 2019. So we've been here for five years now and this town is extra special to you. This town is definitely extra special to me because um my husband was born and raised in Floral Park. And when we got married, I moved into Floral Park and now my Children, both of them go to uh school in Floral Park as well and you have your own business here and you say you offer a variety of different classes. We do, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical uh recreational and competition classes and we're very family driven. We have a lot of students that come, um, just for one class or come for five classes. And obviously you're doing something good here. Look at all the trophies up there. And you guys do competitive classes. Right. Yes, we do competitive classes and recreational classes. Um, it's not about the accolades. It's more about the kids coming and having fun and, you know, that's what's most important to us here. Christina. What's your favorite part about the business? Oh, all the kids. They're just so fun. They keep me energized. They keep me young. I love it. I'm here for it. I'll jump in a class just to have fun with them and they love it as well. So it's a great family environment and I love it here. And you have a lot of people that live in Floral Park and probably from the outside communities that come here and dance. We do and everyone is welcomed here. And uh you know, we have a lot of students from the Floor Park area, but we have students that travel from many different communities like Oceanside Massapequa and they all come here and they love it here. Oh, rich. I wish you could smell what I could smell right now because it smells absolutely delicious in here. Let's just pan right over to the food chef, Ariel woke up early to cook some of this for us. So we're very thankful for that. And Mike and Roy, you guys are the co owners. This place has been around since the late nineties, but you guys took it over a year ago. Um How has business been? Business has been great here in Florida Park. Uh Such a great community, such a wonderful group of people and they've really come out and embraced us and everybody's done everything they can to help us be successful. What's the best part about having this business right here on Tulip Avenue? Just the neighbors have been so welcoming and the doors are always open and it's just been wonderful. So can we kind of do a little rundown what we got right here on the counter? Absolutely. I'll start you off with the brunch food. We serve uh Saturday and Sunday brunch 11 to 3 on the weekend, we have the short rib hash that's braised, short rib, veal reduction, potatoes fried egg on top. We have a lobster claw sandwich which is uh fresh lobster meat, arugula, truffle, oil, fried egg on brioche and garlic aioli. This is uh one of our great appetizers where we have grilled um Ciabatta bread, Prosciutto Burrata. And then we finish a table side with the truffle honey and it's the dining experience is everything too. I know you guys told me that you had these pictures up before you took the business over, you changed it up. But I, I love the scenery here and, and each pitcher shares a different story. Definitely, uh ode to local sport, um, founders of the community on that side, locals, wedding pictures even on the wall in the dining room. So it's really, we try to show everything that floral park has here inside. All right. So I guess we're just gonna have to take a bite of something. I think the shrimp looks the easiest and uh rich. Maybe we'll take some back to the studio, but for now we're going to send it back to you for now.
