This morning. Our main street Long Island series continues. We head out to our communities every Monday to show off our local businesses. And today we're in Cold Spring Harbor news 12. Jen Selig is at sweetie pies on Maine. Hey Jen, how's it going over there? We see some customers walk in just now. This is the coffee spot for Cold Spring Harbor. This place has been around for 14 years now and Judy Hogan who's in here, she's the owner, the sweetest woman I have ever met and little did. I know I've been supporting her business since I was in high school. This coffee shop is amazing. Talk to me about how the town treats you guys. Oh, the town is wonderful to us. We love it. It's, um, we love it so much that we've been here 14 years and don't be a lot longer, but we love the historic part of it. And this building, as I told you was built in 1840 that's incredible. And a lot of the buildings here, all of them are historic. Yeah. And the businesses that are in them and that's very unique, I think to Long Island Right. Of course. And what's also so special too is I see a lot of local businesses are in here too. You have. That's how we started. You know, we don't bake anything here. We bring everything in from local bakeries. Viola Del bakes for us every day. We pick up from him and then we slowly have met new people on Long Island, uh like Bruno's Biscotti and Mia's Yucca Six. These are all local people. You know which of our pies come from Young's Farm, which from the day we opened, that was part of the deal we would open if she would let us wholesale her pies and she never had let any pies off the farm before. So for 14 years, we've been picking up her pies and bringing them here very good to know. And obviously you guys are doing something. Well, do you have regular customers? What are you hopeful for, for the future of the business? It's just we keep going and people want to come and just, you know, hang out, be with their friends and it's very nice. I know we have some customers outside so we gotta bring them in. We're gonna send it back to you in the studio, Aaron and check out some other businesses right here in the town. Can't wait, Jen. We will head back to you in a little bit to see what else is going on over there.

One of my favorite times of the week this morning, our Main street Long Island series continues. We had, we head out to communities every Monday to show off our local businesses on them. Today, we're in Cold Spring Harbor and our Jen Selig is there at the firehouse museum. Jen. What's going on over there? Well, Aaron, here's a fun fact for you. This is the original Cold Spring Harbor fire station built back in the 18 seventies. It's just mind boggling how old this building is and this engine, they don't make engines like this anymore. And Tom Hogan, you are Judy's husband and you're also the director here of the museum. And boy, there's just so much to look at here and so much history here in the town. It's a very special place, isn't it? There's no community in my opinion like this anywhere. When you think about it, we have, well, we have visitors from all over the world. We in this little museum, people from over 40 countries have visited us as well as an equal number of States. People are in Cold Spring horror because of everything that it has to offer. We're in Nook and Cranny Town, we have the Whaling Museum. We have preservation. Long Island. We have the fish hatchery. We have, it's Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in this DNA learning Center. I defy anybody to tell me that another community can offer what we have. We have beautiful shops, wonderful restaurants. We're the Hamptons West for many people. It's an easy trip for New York. We have a magnificent harbor. We have a community that entire business districts in the National Register of Historic Places. This doesn't exist any place else very well said, Tom. That's crazy. And it's, it's nice to know that you probably see people all different ages coming in here in this museum. It's a place where people come in and marvel what we have the youngsters get on our 1923 Ford Model Tt over there and they sound the siren and their parents get in with them and sometimes their grandparents, sometimes we have firefighters that come in from New York City and other parts of the world and they share their experiences on some of the equipment that we have here. Little pompieri ladders. People would scale buildings with them and, and they'd rescue people. They come down and uh we have a monument or memorial. It's a 911 where 343 firefighters perished on 911. And so we're steeped in history and a community steeped in history. But we have the privilege of sharing memories with people. So we have to stick around here because there's so much to witness here and I need a history lesson here. So I'm gonna stick with Tom and send it back to you in the studio, Aaron, I don't know if there's a President of Cold Spring Harbor, but Tom is your guy, he's definitely willing to speak highly about this guy.

Well, it's Monday and we are focusing on Long Island's many great main streets news 12 Jen Selig is in Cold Spring Harbor. This afternoon we are having lunch at the Harbor mist right here in Cold Spring Harbor. And boy, there are so many great things on the menu. We have some sitting in front of us. This is Barman and his wife Michelle. You guys own the restaurant. You've been here for 14 years, right? Oh, yeah, almost 15, almost 15 years serving the best seafood around, best seafood pasta, steaks, lamb chop everything. We have everything on the menu actually. And you guys are open all year round, even a beautiful view all year round. I know you guys are busy in the summer time. The only day we close is Christmas Day. All the other days. We open lunch and dinner. Fair enough. So, what do we have on this table? We have pork chop. A La Michel which we call it after her is vinegar. Pepper with pork chop with roast potatoes and the lobster very popular at summer time. Here we do lobster salad, lobster, roll, seafood pasta with lobster everything. What would you say the best part is of having the restaurant right here in Cold Spring Harbor. The people, the customer and the people that they live in Cold Spring Harbor, they're very nice, very friendly. You guys do big parties reservations. You take, we do a lot of catering, a lot of parties on the weekend, bridal shower and the retirement parties. They do a lot of parties, summer time during the week. I know this place is massive. We're upstairs in the dining room and the view is just absolutely gorgeous. This is the harbor room with the view of the harbor and we have the Miss room with the fireplace downstairs and the bar with the fireplace and the outdoor dining. And you notice that you have regular customers. We have a lot of regular customers that they come here once a week, twice a week, holidays, everything you've been here for almost 15 years. You're hoping for 15 more, 15 more years. So we're going to enjoy the pork chop, the lobster, the bread too. Always a good time and send it back to you guys in the studio.

The Blue Whale

Same building, different business. We are going downstairs now and this is the Blue Whale, a beautiful coastal theme decor shop. And with me, I have the owner, Susan and you have been here for a long time. 2015. Yes. Yes. We recently rebranded and reopened about a month ago. Um We wanted to rebrand as the Blue Whale because Cold Spring Harbor is a whaling town and we wanted to bring that nostalgia back. It's so beautiful here and I, I love the focus. It's not just the east coast. I mean, this is everywhere on the water. Yes. Yes. As an interior designer, not only do we design for east coast homes, but I'm also influenced by West Coast coastal and Mediterranean coastal. So we try to mesh that all together right here in Cold Spring Harbor, here in Cold Spring Harbor. What's your love for this town? I think the people, the people are down to earth. Um Love the locals, love to support the small businesses and we just really appreciate it so you can get your coffee from sweetie pies upstairs and then you can just come down the stairs or out by the garden to check out your business.
