It is Monday, which means we're highlighting another local neighborhood and its small businesses. And this morning, our main street Long Island series continues in Brentwood News 12, Jen Selig is at La Espe Guta Bakery trying out some tasty treats. Not a bad way to start your day, Jen, of course not. And I always have a sweet too. So this is the place I'm happy to be here. We got some Spanish candy, we got some pastries, even some customized cakes over here. And from what I'm told that this bakery has been around since the late nineties and Bruce here with the Chamber of Commerce here in Brentwood. You've seen this place actually open up because before this, this was a bank, you were saying yes, this used to be Republic and uh when Republic Bank went out of business or it was bought and left empty, it was left empty for, for years. And Miguel who owns this uh establishment, he opened it up. Uh and it, it's a tremendous asset to Brentwood. He's, he, he's made it a very nice place inside and outside and he has Colombian specialties here that you come around. Uh around lunchtime you won't be able to get in here. It's so crowded. I heard the empanadas are really good here. Yes. The first empanadas I had in my life came from here, Bruce. And, and you were saying this is a staple here. Yes. Yes. Uh, Miguel, uh, not only owns this, he owns the old Brentwood movie theater which he turned into a, uh, soccer academy and so little soccer field, he owns a couple of buildings uh, down the road where he's gonna turn into uh office building, office space. So he, he's been a real asset to this community and, and this uh bakery, uh, I don't know anybody who has had ever said anything bad about it. I mean, it, it just smells good being right in here. We're on Brentwood Road. We're gonna head over to Suffolk Avenue to check out another bakery over there. I think everyone here in Brentwood just has a sweet tooth rich. Yeah, it sounds good. And that looks like a great place, Jen. Thanks so much.

It's Monday, which means we're highlighting another local neighborhood. And this morning, our main street Long Island series continues in Brentwood news. So Jen Selig is there. She's at Campbell's Bakery right now. Grabbing some more sweet treats. Great way to start the day again, Jen times two. Yeah, I'm not complaining at all. This place has been serving the community for 55 years. Greg. You are the owner here, the co owner come over here with my partner Daniel and he has my cookie. I'm going to take this and you were telling me before that. I mean, you're pretty confident that people who go to weddings on Long Island, they have likely had your cake. Well, I said mostly if you go to a wedding on Long Island right now, you're eating a Campbell's cake and pastries and cookies. We service a lot of catering halls on Long Island and you're most known for the Tres Leches, Tres Leche cake and our flan and our cannoli cake and our pastries and cookies. Everything much, pretty much everything, but the Tres Leche is our number one staple. People come every week from Riverhead, from the city, from the Bronx, they all come for the Tres Leche cake. That's what we're known for. It's really taken off in the last 20 years. And like I said, we've built this up with the church, let's say cake. But like you see everything else, we sell, we sell a ton of stuff. We have delicious cakes and pastries and cookies and like I said, we, you know, we do a wedding cakes is our big staple. We do like between 5065 wedding cakes a week, every week, all year. Always busy. Is there any great benefit about having the business right here in the heart of Brentwood? Oh, we love Brentwood. Brentwood's been great to us and we serve Brentwood. We take care of them that we do for the community, for the school, for the chamber, for everyone we take care of. We've been here since 1955. We've been, I personally hasn't been here since 55 but 1989 me and my partner bought it and we, we took, it was a nice little small family bakery and we ran with it and over the last 37 years, we, we uh we took it. Uh we took it to another level. I have my director in my ear right now telling me to bring home back to the studio. Some sweet treat. So do you mind if we take a box? We give you a box. We'll take you Tres Leti some Napoli, some sweet, some lobster tails, whatever you'd like. We got it all. Let's do it, let's eat this cooking and send it back to you guys in the studio. Hey, Rich, these flowers roses. I should say they're so pretty different colors. Charles. Do you guys have a little bit of everything back here? Yes, we do. And we've been in business now for 44 years. Wow. Wow. What's so special about the business being here in Brentwood? We've been blessed by the good Lord. That's what's so special. Plus we have a great clientele uh diversified by many different people. Uh The community has supported us wonderfully for 44 years. You get people coming in maybe seeing people on their worst days and their happiest days. Right? Oh, of course, we supply from the birth to, of course the death. Uh And of course, love of is one of the fa my favorite. Uh the saddest, of course, is as I get older and I get closer, that's the saddest. So to see all these beautiful bouquets, uh Carlos working back there are there any type of like popular flower that people love? Oh, the roses. We have a rose special that is, uh, for 1499 that we sell several 1000 roses a week between both of our stores. Uh, we're very well known for our quality. That's why Brentwood florist for 44 years. We've been here, my wife and I, so you could put together the perfect bouquet. Absolutely. We got a question. Oh, there's no question. We have roses, lilies, carnations, flowers from all over the world. We have suppliers from uh Connecticut Jersey and on Long Island. Wow. Wow. So you're located right here in the heart of Brentwood. It's a perfect place to be perfect place to get your flowers and send it back to you in the studio rich. All right. Thank you very much, Jen. On this Monday. We're focused on one of Long Island's many great main streets news twelve's Jen Selig is in Brentwood for us. This afternoon. We are inside of Woods Menswear where you can see they make customized clothing for boys and men. And with me, I have Joel, you are the manager here and you just don't make clothing for Brentwood. You represent a bunch of different schools and municipalities across the island. Exactly. We've been in business for 60 years serving the Brentwood community as well as all of Long Island. Uh Brentwood apparel as well as school apparel for many school districts as well as municipalities, highway departments, police department, firemen, first responders. And it's a pleasure working in the Brentwood area. What's the best part about being right here in Brentwood? We get a sense of community being in business. 60 years, we see Children start their school year with our apparel, graduate. Leave the area, come back to buy memorabilia representing Brentwood and it's a great place to have a business. Do you guys do custom orders? Yes, we do many fundraisers in the area, screen printing embroidering, special occasions, birthdays, et cetera. You probably really see the pride here in Brentwood because now you got me thinking students probably come in here all the time to get their, their gear. We've seen 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation Brentwood residents, Baer area, Central Islip, truly the whole community. And it's a pleasure seeing young people represent their community in a positive way. I love it. I'm gonna keep this Brentwood sweatshirt on and send it back to you in the studio.

We are in Brentwood and that's where we find news. So Jen Selig at Hacienda real grabbing some breakfast in a historical building. Jen. Yes. Rich, a beautiful restaurant here. A beautiful bar with me. I have Jose, you are the owner of this beautiful restaurant and yo, this is a historical building. Yes, I am the owner and this is a historical building. Yes, you opened up the business back in 2022. And how has the community been treating you? We did open in 2023 January 2023. Yes. Uh Fantastic. Breo is fantastic. We have a, a nice Spanish community, American community. They all come here to celebrate it. Uh birthdays, you know, all kind of family celebration. We do have a, a good specials. Plaz Hacienda Plaz family style plaz, Latin fusion food. You're bringing your culture, you're from Latin America, El Salvador and your heritage and culture here. It's super important to be here in Brew. Yes. Yes. That's the idea to open Hacienda here in Bren to have a nice um restaurant for the community. I heard uh dinner time it's really popular here. Your guacamole is famous here. Yes. One of the famous um appetizers, the guacamole, fried calamari mazos, marinara nachos and all kind of, you know, platters specials. So, you've been, you've been here, not for a long time, but you're hoping you're gonna be here for a long time. Oh, yes. Yes. That's the idea to be here for a long time. All right, I gotta check it out on a weekend night. Right. Yes, please. For sure. We're gonna stick around here and hang out a little bit longer and send things back to you in the studio. Rich.
