All right, it's Monday, which means we're heading to another community and showing off some local businesses that make it so special. I love that we do this and this morning we are in Baldwin News 12, Jen Selig is grabbing a bite to eat at Palm Island restaurant and lounge. Hey Jen. Hey guys, I feel like I'm in Manhattan right now. But no, we are in Baldwin. We're at one of the newer businesses opened up three months ago. Guyanese Chinese fusion, take a look at this delicious food. They have prepped for us and with man, with Victor, he is the business owner opening up the door three months ago. How has the community been treating you? Oh, hi, Jen. Thanks for having me. Um Community has been responsive. They, they love the food and uh we have like a, a pretty nice nightlife here where we have turns into a lounge. So um it's been really good and uh we're glad to be here. You live in Baldwin, you love this community. What made you want to open up a place like this? So I live in an area. Um I do real estate as well. And a lot of people, I'm also Guyanese. So, a lot of people from my community have moved here and, uh, we needed a place, uh, with our cuisine. So I brought it here to Baldwin and just, you know, it's been really good so far. I mean, look at those dishes. They look so good. Are any of those a fan favorite right there on the table. The Jerk Island pasta. That's the number one. Oh, I have to try that out. Of course, we're gonna stick around here. We're gonna check out some other businesses on the block and send it back to you guys in the studio. Maybe a little early for you, Jen for pasta. But you gotta give it a try. Right. All right. It's the start of a new week. That means we're heading to another community to highlight some local businesses. And this week we are in Baldwin and our Gen Selig is at Grandview Auto Body Jan. You went from a restaurant a half an hour ago. Now you're at an auto body shop. You're getting around Baldwin. Oh, yeah, we're checking out all the local businesses here and this body shop working on some of the newer cars and some of the beautiful older cars like this one. Paul, what kind of car is this? Yes, we have 1972 Oldsmobile. Cutlass. Supreme. Wow. An Oldsmobile. Ok. So Paul, you are the owner of the body shop and you told me that you always had a passion working with cars. Absolutely. Bought my first car before I bought my driver's license. I've been working on cars ever since my gosh. And what's the benefit about having your own business right here in the community you took over this business. This business has around for decades. Absolutely. It's been around since the early eighties and I've been here since 2005. And as great being here in Baldwin, the residents are really supportive of the Baldwin community. They're really supportive in trying to shop Baldwin first. And especially when they know you sort of from the community, different community events, they really do enjoy supporting their own people. And of course you have returning customers, right. I would say probably because of the customers we have, we either returning or been referred by somebody. So, yeah, it's been really supportive for the community. That's great. What's your favorite part about this job? Uh I've always loved working on cars. I've been working towards owning my own shop for a long, long time and it's kind of a combination of a lot of work, a lot of sacrifice. So just come in every day, putting the key in the door and getting to work on cars and be around cars all day. I just love it. I love that. I feel the same way with my job too. It's when you love what you do, it's, you're never work a day in your life, right? It's absolutely true. It really is, Paul. Thank you so much. Of course, we're gonna stick around here in Baldwin. Our Jen Selig is at Park Assets real estate company. Hey Jen, how are you? Hey, Aaron and Rich, we're having so much fun this morning. You could eat good food, you could get your car fixed and you could buy a house all here in Baldwin with me. I got Victor again and his agents and they can help you find your next home in Suffolk County, Nassau County also in Queens County as well. You do a little bit of everything. You're also the chamber president. Yes, I am. So uh being chamber president, you know, it's uh a very fulfilling job seeing Baldwin grow as um a whole business hub because we actually are bordered. The business district runs straight down to residential. So, uh it's a great place where you stop and you always have something to do, get your business done. You've had this business for about four years, it's been successful. Uh The business has been great. I actually live up the block so I have no choice but to be here, what's the best part for having two businesses in Baldwin? Uh The good thing is, is being able to run up and down also get to visit my son during lunch. So just being local, uh, always is a plus. I love that. I love that. So we're gonna continue hanging out here in Baldwin on Main Street and check out some more businesses. But for now I'm gonna send it back to you guys in the studio all about staying local, Jen. Start of a new week. That means we're heading to another community to highlight some local businesses. And this week we're in Nassau County in Baldwin and our Jen Selig is grabbing some food at Viva Tulum. Hey, Jen. Hey, good morning. We're having breakfast here at Viva Tulum. I'm with Larry and Jackie. Father, daughter. You're the owner of the business and you guys opened up just about a year ago. How has business been treating you? They're doing well right now. I got a lot of support for the Baldwin community and we're so happy with this and we're going American and Mexican food. I'm sure there are a bunch of fan favorites, right, Jackie. Yes, of course. We have um our signature dishes. Um for example, the Molcajete, which is full of um very delicious um ingredients and um we're really happy to be a part of Baldwin and the community and we appreciate um all the love that we've gotten from everyone here. What's the best part about being with your dad, your sister working this business right here on Merrick Road. Well, working in family, you know, I'm just really happy to be able to see them every day and spend quality time with them even if we're working. Um, and just being able to put all of our love on our dishes and, um, our customers as well. Now, you normally don't serve breakfast. You're doing it because we're here, which I'm so thankful for it's lunch and dinner. So usually this place on a weekend night is busy. Right. Yes, it is. Um, so we don't serve breakfast. Um, but we did introduce are called Chilaquiles. Um, and that's also a Mexican dish. So we just did a little quick uh spin for you guys there for breakfast. Um And yeah, we usually are pretty um, you know, full here in the, in the evening time. I love it. I had to go run and get a plate. And this morning, we are in Baldwin News twelve's Gen Selig is grabbing some Italian food now at Novi Jen. I feel like you've just been all around that town this morning and I really can't complain because all the food and the businesses are all so good. I'm with Kat and with Debbie and you, you guys have been in business for many, many years since 1937 in this location. What's so special about this restaurant? It's, it's a family owned family-friendly restaurant. Um We're not a nice Italian spot. What's your favorite part about coming here? It's local. It's walkable. It's right on Merrick Road. Um Right in the heart of Baldwin. It's a great area, great community. And our chef, Benelli is the owner, he was a chef for 30 years before he bought the business, which is a true American dream, so very family oriented. It really is the American dream and we have so many customers here this morning. This is Laura Laura, this is, you mentioned, this is your go to Italian spot. Oh, definitely. We come here all the time celebrations just to have dinner with friends, family. It's absolutely delicious. What's the best part about coming here? Aside from the food? Um, it's just a really friendly family atmosphere and the food. Of course, the food and cat. Um, the community treats you guys so well, you have regular customers. I mean, they came out this morning to support you guys. We do, we have a ton of regular customers. We have new customers all the time hoping that they become our regulars. We have couples that had their first date here and then have baptized their grandchildren here. It's, it's an amazing, uh, it's an amazing town to be in and to work in. We have so many dishes out here already. Is there a fan favorite on the menu? I believe the Penne Ala Vodka is probably a fan favorite. The baked clams calamari and you can't leave out the cannoli. You can't leave without it. You can't forget about dessert. Ok, guys. What is your favorite town? Scream it out loud. Back to you guys in the studio. Let's go. We are in another great Long Island community seeing why this town is so special. Earlier today, I checked out what there is to do and see in Baldwin. No good. We are at Gala Fresh Farms where you can shop all you want grocery shop for the whole family with me. I'm with Jenny Jorge. You are the owner of this family owned and operated business. I mean, you guys have been in business for almost 10 years. Yes. We've been here since November of 2015. Very proud to serve the Baldwin community and you were helping dad and your brother start this business, right? Or take it over. Yes. Correct. My um, my dad, my brother and I built out the store. Um, and really, we've been running it for the last nine years. Really excited to be in Baldwin, love the community that we're working with and just trying to make sure that we're in tune with everything that the community needs in our supermarkets. You got everything from the fresh produce to all the snacks. Yep. We have a lot of fresh produce. We've expanded our organic section. We have a vegan section. We also have a large Caribbean section in our store that we've expanded as well. So we just try to stay in tune with what the community needs and kind of give them the items that they're looking for for their everyday meals. And you obviously have returning customers. I'm sure customers come the returning ones weekly to do their shopping. Yes. Yes, we really do see people, you know, our regulars, all our front end employees know our regular customers. Um, we have a great team up here in the front. That's just very much talking to the customers and getting to know them every day. And you love Baldwin so much. It's so great to have a business like yours here and thank you so much for being with us. Thank you. Thank you. I really appreciate you guys coming out to visit us. We love Baldwin.
