When it comes to self-love and care, one Nassau woman decided to put herself first. Roberta Perry started a skincare line called ScrubzBody. She started the family business in 2006 and has a store in Farmingdale.
The business carries a variety of scented body scrubs, lotions, and oils. Roberta was never into skincare until she noticed that what she used previously was not working for her. "I did not always like skin care; in fact, I was one of those; at 43, I finally figured out let me take care of myself," said Roberta. "One day, I had a meeting, and I was scratching my elbow, and it started bleeding, and I'm like, they're badly chapped." That is when Roberta wanted to create something on her own.
She was experimenting with a formula at home and started the business using oils in her kitchen cabinets. She has shipped her products all over the world. She does it all for her late sister, Michelle. "Losing her was traumatic, but the make-your-own scrub parties were her baby, and every party that we do - I hear her saying I told you so!" The business holds "Make Your Own" Scrubz Parties at the store. Roberta says she loves to engage with her community. "It's the people that make it home, and it's the community, especially in a town like this," said Roberta.
