Carolyn Miles left her job to peruse her own business making essential oils. She makes all of her 'Scents 4 My Soul' products at her Huntington Station home.
Her passion for holistic healing started when she was young.
"I grew up with my aunt, and I learned a lot about different herbs from [her]," said Miles.
As a single mother and school bus driver years later, an injury led Miles right back to those roots.
"I tore my meniscus and had surgery. After surgery, I was still in pain. So, I sat down and made the natural pain relief. [I] rubbed it on, and within minutes, I was able to stand up and go up the steps," said Miles.
Now Miles makes everything from sleep oils to headache and migraine relief, all with ingredients sourced from around the globe.
"I get my lavender from France, I get my clove from India," said Miles.
Miles ships her products and has customers from all over the map.
"I have customers from Sag Harbor, Hamptons, all over. I even have a customer I've never met from Italy," said Miles.
She says she makes these products to help others.
"I love what I do, but the satisfaction we get from our customers... you can't put that in a bottle," said Miles.
