The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) upset air traffic controllers at MacArthur Airport Thursday with its new staffing plan.
Staff at the MacArthur Airport control tower will be reduced from 19 controllers to between 13 and 15. Some controllers believe the reduction will affect quality.
"They're overworked," veteran air traffic controller Julio Henriques says. "They become fatigued, stressed out, they start to make mistakes and that's not good for the traveling public."
Despite FAA plans to add 15,000 new controllers nationwide, union officials say none of them are coming to Long Island.
