A man convicted of shooting an officer at point-blank range was sentenced today to life in prison without parole.
Luis Ortiz rolled his eyes as a judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole for murdering a Brooklyn man and nearly killing Detective Sgt. Kevin Brennan, an NYPD officer from Garden City Park.
Surveillance video from January 2012 shows the attempted murder of Brennan.
A jury convicted Ortiz of shooting Brennan in the head, then running away.
Before the judge handed down the sentence, Brennan addressed the court. He said he still has bullet fragments lodged in his head and doesn't know what his future holds.
Brennan says he is pleased with the judge's decision.
