A teacher and students at the Longwood Central School District got into the holiday spirit ahead of Christmas.
Kindergarten teacher Heather Colucci says she was talking to a student she knew was homeless about all the things she wanted for the holiday.
Jackie, a student at Charles E. Walter Elementary School, told Colucci she really wanted a bicycle with a bell.
The teacher posted a call for help on social media and started getting responses - one of which was from a sixth grader who Colucci had in kindergarten.
Caley Bastien reached out to say she wanted to use the money she had saved up to buy the bike.
"I was just thinking she is just in kindergarten and she is only little - I want to make her happy by buying something," Bastien said.
Others soon responded to the social media post and bags loaded with toys and cash donations were delivered.
All of the donations will be used for other families in the district who are struggling.
Colucci says the cash donations she received were used to buy more presents for families and more food for the school's food pantry program.
