Long Island's first specialized science school to close
Long Island's first specialized high school for science is set to close in June due to low enrollment.
The Doshi Stem Institute in Syosset was founded in 2013, according to a Newsday article, but enrollment has now dwindled down to 46 students.
The school shares its campus with the Long Island High School for the Arts, which received a $1 million donation from Billy Joel, according to Newsday.
Nassau BOCES Superintendent Robert Dillon informed parents about the school's closure at a meeting Monday night in Syosset. The reasons for the closure include the low enrollment, along with a $1 million budget gap, says Newsday.
Nassau BOCES Board of Trustees will meet about the closure on Thursday.
