Long Islanders may be able to unmask in the workplace - but there's a catch

Certain public-facing industries still require employees to wear a mask. Ultimately the final decision to mask or unmask is in the hands of the employer.

Under guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people who are fully vaccinated can remove their masks in the workplace but only under certain circumstances.
Certain public-facing industries still require employees to wear a mask. Ultimately the final decision to mask or unmask is in the hands of the employer.
Mary Graziano, of Smithtown, works in retail and says she still has to wear a mask at work.
Human resources consultant Alcott HR says businesses in New York are now starting to announce their policies. Alcott HR says if you have questions about your company's policy you should talk to someone in the human resources department.
"They still have the authority to do that, again that might change at some point," says Orlando Villalonga, of Alcott HR. "But right now, yes they can say we're still mandating masks inside for the safety of our employees, or our clients, or you know what for whatever reason they feel is necessary for their business."
Starting Monday, workers who provide proof of vaccination at Alcott HR will be allowed to go maskless inside the building. Workers who are not vaccinated must continue to wear a mask.
