Two Long Island veterinarians are being praised as Good Samaritans after nursing a malnourished rottweiler back to health.

Dr. Matthew Kearns was working at the Animal Emergency Service in Selden when two rottweilers were brought in whose owner had been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. One dog died shortly after arriving and Kearns says the other, named Callie, had resorted to eating rocks to trick her stomach into feeling full. Kearns says he removed the rocks and sent Callie to Dr. Arnold Lesser in Farmingdale to help with her bones and joints.

Both veterinarians say Callie is the perfect pet for a family and is neither skittish or aggressive. Anyone interested in adopting Callie is asked to call 631-694-3400.
