Residents throughout Long Island say they are worried after a string of catalytic converter thefts, as well as thieves going through cars stealing valuables from inside.

News 12 obtained surveillance video from a Hicksville neighborhood that shows the moments thieves stole a catalytic converter on Oct. 31. People can be seen lifting up the car to take the catalytic converter.

"I was shocked because it woke me up. It was so loud," says Hicksville resident Jennifer Rouhani.

As News 12 reported, there have been at least seven incidents since Oct. 23 across Nassau County.

It now has some neighbors on edge, worried that they might be next.

"Very worried. Thank goodness I have a garage, and I park my car in the garage now," says Rouhani.

That's not the only fear right now.

There's now concerns about thieves going through cars stealing valuables from inside.

"It's getting worse. It's getting more and more," says Bay Shore resident Barbara Farina.

As News 12 reported on Sunday, homeowners in North Bay Shore say there's been multiple incidents over the last few months.

Home security video shows someone trying to open car doors.

News 12 has been seeing comments on social media that it's happening in other areas too such as West Islip, Sayville, Holbrook and Bohemia.

News 12 reached out to Suffolk police for more information.

"My son, not long ago, they tried getting into his car and actually in the summer, they did get into his car," says Farina.

Police say it's important to always keep vehicles locked, take out any valuables and don't leave keys in the car.

News 12 is waiting on more information from Nassau and Suffolk police about where these incidents are taking place.
