Westbound lanes reopened on the Long Island Expressway in Plainview Saturday night after a crash closed them for hours.
Authorities say the accident happened on the westbound lanes between Washington Avenue and Old Country/Round Swamp Road.
The westbound lanes were closed for about four hours.
Nassau police said the accident happened just before 3 p.m.
Witnesses said a car flipped over and burst into flames. Other witnesses said that a victim may have been ejected from the vehicle and given chest compressions by first responders in the middle of the expressway.
Traffic on the westbound lanes was rerouted to the service road for about four hours while investigators documented the scene.
The fire on the crashed vehicle was eventually brought under control.
A News 12 Long Island crew on the scene observed crime scene tape and detectives on the scene for several hours.
By 7:30 p.m., Nassau police reported that all traffic lanes had reopened.
As of Saturday Night, Nassau County Police had not provided official information on what caused the crash, how many people may have been involved and their conditions.
