The Nassau County Democrats held a special convention Wednesday to vote out the party?s highest-ranking official.
Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs filed to change her party affiliation in an attempt to win a power struggle brewing between Democrats and Republicans, as well as within the Democratic Party itself. Since Republicans say Jacobs cannot voluntarily leave her party, the Democrats held the ceremony to officially kick her out.
A Supreme Court judge will rule tomorrow if Jacobs? change in party affiliation can take place immediately, or if she must wait until the Tuesday after the 2006 election. A ruling in her favor will pave the way for her to become Minority Leader, which she says will make sure that the voice of Nassau Democrats is heard.
