Six students in the Locust Valley School District were national winners in the prestigious Toshiba ExploraVision Competition.
Oliver Blaise and Leonard Gu, of Locust Valley Intermediate School, were among the national winners for their plan to turn NASA's Hubble into a magnetic vacuum cleaner that will collect space junk when the spacecraft is decommissioned.
Four students at Bayville Intermediate were national winners for "The Tick Detective," a video they created for the kindergarten through third grade level of the competition. They also came up with a handheld device to detect ticks on people
Each student was rewarded with a $10,000 savings bond and a trip to Washington, D.C. to pick it up.
