Schools throughout Baldwin and Oceanside initiated a lockdown for several hours Wednesday as police searched for the suspect in a shooting near one school.
Police say they have the identity of a man who shot at a moving vehicle across from St. Christopher's School on Gale Avenue in Baldwin. Authorities say the suspect entered the home of his girlfriend and got into an argument with a contractor doing work inside the house. The girlfriend's mother suspects the shooter believed her daughter was having an affair with the contractor.
Police say the argument escalated and the contractor ran from the home. The suspect followed and fired five shots at the man?s SUV as he was fleeing. No one was injured in the incident. Police say the shooter contacted them and said he would turn himself in after speaking to a lawyer.
