Local coffee shop brews community in Amityville
Anchor Coffee in Amityville is brewing up more than just lattes, it’s building community one cup at a time.

Inside Anchor Coffee, customers are greeted with creative specialty drinks, a cozy atmosphere and familiar faces that keep them coming back. “We are making our most popular drink right now; it’s called the Honey Nut Cheerio,” Colleen Sheridan said while crafting the shop’s signature latte, made with hazelnut, toffee crunch and honey.
The coffee shop opened in 2021 after former NYPD officer Rich Griffin and his wife, Krista, decided to start a new chapter together. Since then, the business has grown into a staple in the community.
“Most of the people that come in now are more than customers; they’re friends,” Griffin said. “We know their kids, we’ve seen them get pregnant, have kids, we watched their kids grow up.”
For customers like Jason McGowan, who works in Amityville, stopping at Anchor Coffee has become part of his daily routine. “There are a few schools around here, so it’s great for them, the beautiful town of Amityville,” McGowan said. “They’re doing a great job. They work hard and its great products, and you have to support your town.”
Staff members say the loyal customers are what makes the shop feel special. “The customers are amazing; the environment is so beautiful around this town,” Alexis Jents said.
From the specialty drinks to the friendly faces, Anchor Coffee is serving up a little something extra in the heart of Amityville Village.
