Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams has been nominated to serve as interim executive director and CEO of the MTA.
MTA Chairman H. Dale Hemmerdinger announced the nomination Thursday. Elliot Sander resigned the post earlier this month and Williams could serve in his place until a successor is appointed.
MTA Board member Mitch Pally says Williams is a great pick, especially for Long Islanders.
?The Railroad will have the benefit of Helena looking at the entire system, not just the railroad system,? Pally says.
The full MTA Board will vote on Williams? confirmation Wednesday. If selected, Williams will stay on the job until Gov. David Paterson picks a permanent CEO.
