A Long Island teen who won a free ride to college through the state’s COVID-19 vaccine incentive program says she will take advantage of her opportunity.

Suffolk County student Natalia Low, from Lindenhurst, is one of 10 students from across the state that won a full scholarship this week through the state’s “Get a Shot to Make Your Future” incentive.

The scholarship includes tuition and room and board to any New York public college or university.

After graduation, Low says she will use this opportunity to go to school to become a nurse.

"When my mom had breast cancer and when my grandma had breast cancer, it was very hard for me to watch them go through that,” Low says. “I think that helping other people or finding a cure for something will really help me benefit because of what happened to them…I like helping other people.”

Three drawings remain after this week. A parent or legal guardian can sign up any 12- to 17-year-old in the drawing once they have received their first dose of the vaccine.

State officials say COVID-19 relief and outreach funds are being used to cover the cost of this incentive program.
