A school nurse in Lindenhurst is suing the Alleghany Avenue School, saying health conditions inside the school made her sick.
A lawyer representing Teresa Merlucci says his client began developing debilitating rashes on her body and suffered from frequent nose bleeds and sinusitis. Merlucci has since been transferred to another school in the district.
School officials say mold was found inside the school in August 2003, but that it was cleaned up by the time students returned to classes a month later. Officials also say that health improvements have been made, including the spraying of insulation into crawlspaces, the installation of dehumidifiers and the adding of an improved water drainage system. The superintendent says recent air and soil samples in and around the building have shown conditions to be normal.
