A lightning strike sparked a fire at a home's garage in Yonkers.

It happened at 303 Devoe Ave. Yonkers Fire Department Chief Joseph Citrone said the residents were home when they saw an explosion in the backyard.

He said crews arrived at the scene to find the house on fire. Citrone told News 12 that fires caused by lightning happen very often, especially when severe weather passes.

One of the homeowners said her family was not injured. She also added that the lightning did not damage any parts of the home.

Citrone said a firefighter was taken to the hospital for a minor injury and is expected to recover.
