A huge warehouse fire in Uniondale Tuesday night was triggered by a lightning strike, according to fire officials. Seven fire departments were called to battle the blaze that engulfed the WIN-HOLT Equipment Group Warehouse on Oak Street near Commercial Drive. Officials say a 911 call about a trapped firefighter was made in the midst of the blaze. Uniondale Fire Department Chief Darnell Eason says the caller was very specific, giving a name and unit number. However, the call turned out to be a false alarm. Three firefighters were hospitalized for heat and smoke exposure. The fire chief says the call was not the cause of the firefighters? injuries. Investigators say they do not consider the call malicious and will let the fire department look into the matter internally.
