A Long Island war veteran who lost both his legs in Afghanistan is being celebrated for rescuing a baby from a smoking car.
Matias Ferriera sprang into action on Wednesday after seeing a crash in Howard Beach.
The Marine from Wantagh went to the damaged vehicle and pulled a baby out while his brother and his fiancee's dad freed the mother.
The Wantagh native was to be married Friday.
