Long Island residents traveling by air are finding an increase in security at airports Thursday due to a foiled terrorist plot.
Armed police officers and canine units could be seen all over Kennedy International Airport. Lines were long at the airport after a code red alert was issued for all flights arriving from Britain. People are urged to come to the airport at least two hours early. Travelers will not be allowed to bring any liquids on the plane. Many passengers say they are cooperating with the new security measures.
British officials say they foiled a plot to blow up several U.S.-bound planes. They claim the suspects were planning to use liquid explosives. Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) says the plot points to an ?al-Qaida-like operation.?
