Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy stressed his goals of protecting taxpayers and planning for the future during his third State of the County address Tuesday.
Levy said his biggest targets are high taxes and making Suffolk County an affordable place to live. He said he plans to extend Governor Pataki's STAR-Plus program, which offers a tax rebate to homeowners living in school districts that increase spending by less than 4 percent. Levy plans to initiate a Suffolk Senior STAR Program, which will guarantee no increases in county taxes for seniors in those districts.
Levy also hopes to provide more affordable workplace housing to support the economy while also protecting undeveloped land.
