A Levittown man faced a judge Wednesday for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
Police say 25-year-old Robert Lane flashed his fake badge to the wrong man ?- an off-duty NYPD detective.
According to police, Lane was driving on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia around 1 p.m. Tuesday when he claims he was cut off by another driver. Police say Lane activated the flashing lights on his Jeep Cherokee, pulled the car over and produced a fake badge.
The off-duty detective became suspicious, showed Lane his police badge and told him to pull over. Lane refused, and the undercover detective followed him and called 911.
Lane is charged with criminal impersonation and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
