The Suffolk County Police Department has been sued and accused of forcibly removing a Muslim woman’s Islamic headscarf or hijab.

Two groups have filed a lawsuit on behalf of Marowa Fahmy, of East Setauket.

The suit says Fahmy was arrested by police in 2022 based on a false tip.

The suit claims police did an invasive and inappropriate body search while other officers watched before removing her hijab.

The officers allegedly refused to give it back as she remained uncovered for several hours until her release.

Fahmy is seeking damages for loss of rights and emotional distress.
