Lawrence crossbow suspect's lawyer says this was a 'prank that went horribly wrong'

A 21-year-old Lawrence man accused of shooting a crossbow at his sister appeared briefly in court Wednesday morning where court documents reveal shocking admissions he made to authorities.
Samy Sedhom appeared in a Mineola courtroom for a procedural appearance.
Sedhom told authorities that he "planned on getting rid" of his sister right after Christmas 2025, according to court records. The incident happened on West Avenue in Lawrence.
The documents say that Sedhom said "She [his sister] keeps putting the heat thermometer at a lower temperature, and I don't like that because I am unable to sleep and I am constantly cold. This causes me to get sick." He said, "I realized this was not a sustainable way of life for me, and I planned on getting rid of her. I have tried over and over to reason with her, and it never worked."
According to the court records, the 21-year-old admitted to buying a crossbow and arrowheads on Amazon and said "I intended to use these items to kill" her.
Documents say that he said on Feb. 13, around 9:20 p.m., he was sitting in his car when he saw his sister arrive home. He said, "I then took my shot. Once I missed, I knew I was gone or was going to go to jail."
Sedhom's attorney, Stephen Mullkoff told reporters, "The case is essentially about a prank that went horribly wrong. My client intended to scare his sister and never intended to hurt her in any way. The family, including the victim in this case, who is the sister, does not believe he ever intended to hurt her.”
Mullkoff also said, "He absolutely suffers from an undiagnosed mental health condition, in my opinion, and that will come out."
News 12 asked about the district attorney's allegations that the defendant and his sister had been fighting about the temperature in their home. He said that is "completely false."
Sedhom is due back in court on March 17.
