An effort is being made in Albany to make it easier to prosecute sex crimes against children.

The proposal would allow survivors five more years to come forward, making 28 the maximum age to bring charges or file a lawsuit. It would also provide a so-called "lookback period," meaning all survivors, regardless of age, would have one year to file a complaint regardless of when the incident took place.

Opponents of the proposal say the lookback provision would generate a flood of frivolous lawsuits. Both the Catholic Church and the teachers union are lobbying against the bill.

The architect of the bill, a Queens assemblywoman, says it's highly unlikely it will even come up for a vote.

The legislative session in Albany is scheduled to end Thursday.
