Law enforcement officers in Montauk were out in full force Saturday night to keep drunken drivers off the road.
Officers set up a DWI checkpoint on Montauk Highway as well as roving DWI checkpoints on the local roads.
Fire marshals were also checking whether bars were filled to capacity. Bouncers were holding lines outside, only allowing patrons to enter once others had left.
Local Montauk residents have been concerned for weeks about the influx of summer partygoers on their streets and the overcrowding at local bars.
Saturday's crackdown involved 13 law enforcement agencies.
The East Hampton Town Board will hold a public hearing on Aug. 20 to discuss a plan that would require bars to install mechanical counters in order to avoid overcrowding.
